Dental care
Dental care is one of the most overlooked health concerns among pet owners. Like humans, cats and dogs are constantly developing plaque bacteria in their mouths. Plaque can accumulate on the teeth, gums, and tongue, causing bad breath, gum disease (bleeding), plaque, and tartar. If nothing is done, plaque can cause excruciating pain and, worst of all, premature tooth loss. Once plaque calcifies into tartar, it cannot be removed with a toothbrush. In many cases, it must be removed by a veterinarian using ultrasound and anesthesia. If tartar buildup is left untreated, it can lead to bad breath, gum disease, cavities and premature tooth loss. Tartar remaining for too long can also cause infection, which can spread throughout the body, damage the heart, lungs, liver, and have a negative impact on kidney function. ProDen PlaqueOff Dental Croq-Bites and PlaqueOff Dog Toothpowder and PlaqueOff Cat Toothpowder are VOHC approved, scientifically proven to be effective in controlling plaque and tartar, and have been granted the right to use the VOHC Seal. Two clinical studies* conducted on dogs by Jerzy Gawor, DVM, PhD, DipAVDC/EVDC, and his team showed that ProDen PlaqueOff® Powder significantly reduced plaque and tartar buildup. The findings formed the basis for an application to VOHC for a health claim to "help control plaque and tartar". Swedencare is proud to announce that ProDen PlaqueOff® Dental Croq-Bites and ProDen PlaqueOff® Powder have been approved to carry the VOHC® Seal of Approval This is the first time we have conducted research on ProDen PlaqueOff in a form other than a powder. We are convinced of the efficacy of this product and are pleased that there is a formal, proper study showing these excellent results. VOHC certification is also very important to us because several major veterinary companies (mainly in the US, but also in other parts of the world) only offer dental health products with VOHC certification. As a result, we can now enter new and untapped areas in our Dental Bites market with VOHC certified products. The subjects of the study were two groups of dogs, one group of small dogs and the other group of small and medium-sized dogs. The two groups of dogs were further divided into two subgroups, one receiving ProDen PlaqueOff® dental bites and the other receiving a solution containing the same ingredients but without the active ingredient, the seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum. All dogs were kept healthy and had their teeth cleaned to remove tartar and plaque before entering the study. Dogs were given the product for 30 days, after which the presence of plaque and tartar was measured. Plaque and tartar were significantly reduced in both groups receiving ProDen PlaqueOff® Dental Bites. After one month of using the active product, plaque index was reduced by an average of 40% and tartar was reduced by an average of 38% compared to the placebo group.
